General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received on Thursday in Al Ain, the visiting Italy’s Prime minister, Matteo Renzi.

General Shaikh Mohammed welcomed the Italian prime minister and his accompanying delegation, wishing the visit would contribute to enhancement of friendship and cooperation relations between the UAE and Italy.


During the meeting, the two parties discussed the bilateral relations and ways to boost them in all fields for the benefit of the two sides and to achieve the two countries’ aspirations in the field of expanding mutual collaboration in the government and private sectors as well as taking advantage of the two sides’ distinguished economic and investment opportunities.

Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister attended the meeting.


General Shaikh Mohammed and Matteo Renzi exchanged views on joint cooperation domains, the promising horizons between the two countries and enhancing trade exchange and cooperation in the energy and aerospace fields, as well as the importance of continuous mutual coordination at all sectors.

General Shaikh Mohammed underscored that the UAE-led by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is keen on extending cooperation bridges and strengthening friendship bonds, building effective and balanced ties with countries across the world for the common interests to support international security and stability.

He also pointed out the importance of the two countries’ distinguished relations in taking advantage of the joint potentials, enhancing bilateral relations and achieving positive results, as well as building economic and investment partnerships in the best service of the two friendly countries and peoples.

For his part, the Italian Prime Minister expressed his delight at visiting the UAE and meeting with General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed, hailing the progress the UAE has made on all levels and commending the high level of bilateral relations between the UAE and Italy and their join cooperation on many issues regionally and internationally.

The meeting also touched on the events on the regional and international arenas, where both sides exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest.

The parties also condemned the deadly terrorist attack on the offices of the Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris, which left several people dead and injured. They reaffirmed that such acts contradict all ethical and moral values, expressing their heartfelt condolences to the French Government and the families of the victims.

The meeting was attended by Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy; Khaldoun Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; Staff Major General Eisa Saif Al Mazrouei, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces; Saqr Nasser Al Raisi, UAE Ambassador to Italy; Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court, and Humaid Al Shammari, Executive Director of Mubadala Aerospace.

Among those who attended from the Italian side were Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Lapo Pistelli; Diplomatic Advisor to Italian Prime Minister Armando Varricchio; Marco Simoni, Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Italy; Chief Executive Officer of Eni, Claudio Descalzi and Vice-President for International Governmental Affairs at ENI, Pasquale Salzano.
