Briefing the Press on the Centre's activities, Dr Hanif Al Qasimi, Vice-President of Zayed University, said: "The Centre is part of ZU's College of Education and has been established to assist UAE KG to grade 12 (K-12) teachers and administrators to develop their practice as part of the process to reform the UAE educational system."
"The Centre is an important addition to ZU's distinguished group of centres and institutes and is in line with the directives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in stressing the national need for a forward-looking educational system."
"Since its soft opening last year, the Centre has provided quality training in key areas such as Teaching Mathematics for Primary Teachers, Critical Thinking Skills, and Effective Supervision and Teaching with Technology. It has also organised a successful conference on standards in education in March last year which attracted over 1,000 professional educators," Dr Al Qasimi said.
Dr Elaine Jarchow, Dean, College of Education at ZU, who welcomed the participants, said, the Centre provides programmes and consultancy and conducts research to accomplish their goals. "A series of specially tailored workshops for various educational institutions and educational zones on critical thinking and problem solving and strategic planning and leadership skills will be offered over the next four months," she said.
She disclosed that the Centre has currently established relationships with the Ministry of Education and Youth, the Dubai Educational Zone, the Abu Dhabi Educational Zone, Sharjah Educational Zone, the Ras Al Khaimah Educational Zone as well as several individual public and private schools to organise several workshops and training programmes to prepare teachers and administrators to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century.
