British woman rider Kelly Jan Wilson was the first woman to compete in a race in the festival. Altogether 27 riders took part in Monday’s competitions.

In purebred Arabian horse category, Ahmad Ali Al Qubasie, owner of horse named Thimar, bagged the first prize after a tough challenge by Murgham owner Suhail Ali Salmeen Al Mazroe who came second.

In the open race, Tahaf owner Ahmad Ali Al Qubasie came first followed by Zak owner Khalifa Hamil Al Ghaith and Kelly Jan Wilson both of whom finished second. Mureb owner Hamad Salim Al Hamli, who took part in the last year’s festival, bagged the third prize. The six-day festival is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.
