The centre will serve residents of Al Khan, Alliah, Al Majaz-I, Al Majaz-2 and Al Majaz-3 as well as Al Nahda, Al Mamzar and Al Tawoun areas.

Sharjah Municipality Director-General Dr Salah Al Haj, who cut the ribbon, said Al Khalidiya centre is just the first step towards the municipality's expansion in various parts of the emirate.

He pointed out that the Al Khalidiya centre will handle tenancy registrations, market control, solid waste management, engineering inspections, agricultural and other kinds of public services as well as fines payment.

He added that there will be municipal services centres in each and every area to serve the residents by simplified transactions and improved customer service.

While stating that all centres would be ready in five years, Dr Salah Al Haj pointed out that soon a centre will be opened in the Sharjah Industrial Area, behind City Centre.

With regard to e-services, Dr Al Haj said currently the IT Department is engaged in efforts to develop online services as part of the e-governance scheme to link all departments of the emirate. The municipality is also coordinating with other government departments to provide services like bill and fine payments, commercial building leasing endorsement and trade licences.
