Researchers urged to focus on scientific signs in Quran
DUBAI - The 7th International Conference on Scientific Signs in Quran and Sunnah will help reflect the scientific indications in the Holy Book and help spread knowledge of the great message of Islam in the world, Dr Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al Turki, Secretary-General of the Islamic World League, Chairman of the International Commission on Scientific Signs in Quran and Sunnah, said.
Dr Al Turki was speaking on Monday at the inauguration ceremony of the 7th International Conference on Scientific Signs in Quran and Sunnah, which was attended by General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence.
About 50 scientific researches will be delivered during the three-day conference, organised by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) in collaboration with the International Commission on Scientific Signs in Quran and Sunnah, under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammed.
Present at the ceremony were Ibrahim Bu Melha, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Justice Department, Dubai Attorney General and DIHQA Chairman, Dr Abdullah Al Musleh, Secretary-General of the International Commission on Scientific Signs in Quran and Sunnah, and Ahmad Holeil, Minister of Auqaf in Jordan.
Dr Al Turki said that scientists and researchers should focus on the scientific signs in the Holy Quran especially with the major world developments in the scientific fields. "Highlighting the scientific marks in the Holy Quran and Sunnah, would strengthen the belief of Muslims and help them convince non-Muslims by highlighting the great value of the Holy Book in various scientific fields including geology, medicine, space, among others," he said.
He noted that the message of Islam should reach all categories of people, stressing on the importance of science in achieving this goal. "The latest scientific developments should help us clarify the message of Islam," Dr Al Turki said.
Mr Bu Melha said that conducting researches on the content of the Holy Quran is a noble cause, especially that the Quran speaks about endless miracles.
"The issue of scientific signs in Quran has developed into a great science with the enormous efforts of researchers and scientists," Mr Bu Melha said.
"Scientists, researchers, and Islamic scholars should collaborate to spread awareness on the true message of Islam in response to the false allegations of some campaigns that are launched by Muslims or non-Muslims," he said.
Dr William Becker, who spoke on behalf of the participants, said: "I am here with you today as perhaps the first and only Christian Muslim you will ever meet."
"I am absolutely convinced that we together, Muslims and Christians, have more in common than any other religions in the entire world. Our common ground includes many areas and articles of faith. Among them our acceptance of the Torah and the books of the prophets, Musa and Isa as two of the greatest prophets sent by Allah to mankind, and the Bible of which portions are found in the Holy Quran," he said.
"We do have differences, and there are many in the world exploiting those differences for political agendas.... We together form more than half the entire world's population, yet we remain antagonists, enemies, separated and fragmented. But one of the most powerful common teachings found in the Quran and the Bible are on justice, mercy, and compassion," Dr Becker observed.
Dr Al Musleh spoke about the achievements of the commission and highlighted the projects that have been initiated since it was established.
"The conference is aimed at serving mankind by focusing on the importance of scientific interaction between science and religion. Our religion seeks a science that brings decency, security, prosperity, and faith to mankind," he pointed out.
