Mohammed Bin Zayed inspects Abu Dhabi Airport e/Gate project

General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Saturday inspected the e-gate project and the Midfield Terminal Building (MTC) project at the Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Accompanied by Shaikhs and top officials, Gen. Shaikh Mohammed viewed a presentation on the new e-Gate system which was launched by the Ministry early this year and is in operation since early last October to ensure faster and more efficient movement of the growing number of passengers into and out of the emirate.

Shaikh Mohammed was briefed by Head of Central Operations at the Ministry of Interior Maj. Gen. Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi on the procedures of the new system which quickly reads and verifies travelers’ information and captures biometric data including fingerprints, facial recognition and retinal scan using high-accuracy equipment.

Later, Shaikh Mohammed inspected the Arrivals Lounge at Terminal 1 where he was briefed by Director of the Project Mohammed Ahmed Al-Za’abi on the new system which includes 12 electronic counters and two e-Gates. At the terminal, Shaikh Mohammed viewed a demonstration of the advanced procedures which help elevate efficiency, accuracy and performance.

Shaikh Mohammed praised the efforts of officials who oversee the e-Gate system and gave directives to adopt similar border control solutions for land and sea ports.

Shaikh Mohammed inspected progress at the Midfield Terminal Building (MTC) project, the largest infrastructure project in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. He was briefed by Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) Ali Majid Al-Mansouri on the huge complex which is being built on 700,000 square meters, and is aimed to provide world-class services that meet this demand over the coming years. The project is part of the Government’s Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, an emirate-wide strategy to cater for Abu Dhabi’s business and tourism growth.

The terminal building which is one of the world-class infrastructure projects being undertaken in the capital will be officially inaugurated in June 2017. The project will increase the Airport’s capacity to around 30 million passengers a year through 80 gates.

The project will include two key phases: the 4 year construction phase, followed by the Operational Readiness Assessment phase (ORAT), where during a 9 month period thorough tests of all aspects of the terminal will take place to ensure operational and efficiency readiness from the first day of operation. The advanced world-class baggage system is designed to process over 19,000 bags per hour.

Later, Shaikh Mohammed views ADAC’s human resources development and emiratization plans. He underscored the significance of putting emiratization of jobs at the core of the company’s strategy to attract nationals and develop their skills.

Shaikh Mohammed was accompanied by Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, Lt.General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, Major General Obaid Al Hairi Al Ketbi, Deputy General Commander of Abu Dhabi Police and Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
