Man rams car into lamppost in RAK, dies

A Filipino, in his 30s, died on the spot on Saturday morning when his car - driven on high speed - skidded off the road and flipped over several times before crashing in to a lamppost. The other passenger travelling with him received serious injuries and is in the intensive care unit of Saqr Hospital. The accident took place on Bridge Road in the emirate's downtown area, in the direction of Al Nakheel business hub.
According to the source, the victim was not paying attention on road and was speeding due to which he lost control over the steering wheel of the car, that veered off the road and rammed in to a lamppost.
On being alerted, the Central Operations Room dispatched traffic patrols, paramedics, an ambulance and rescue teams to the site.
"The driver of the car, having excessively bled, died on the spot, and his body was shifted to the morgue of the Saqr hospital to be collected and buried by relatives as per set procedures," the police source said. The police urged all drivers to be attentive while driving and observe the set speed limits.
