Malayalam novelist remembered

RAS AL KHAIMAH - The "Navadharshana" literary circle in the emirate held a condolence meeting to mourn the fourth death anniversary of late T.V. Kochubhava, a prominent Malayalam short story writer and novelist, who had spent nearly 20 years in Sharjah, associated with the literary activities from year 1978 till 1998 until his death on November 25, 1999.

His famous short stories were discussed in detail and a symposium based on his famous story titled Erachi (The Meat) was also held at the Ras Al Khaimah Computer Institute hall in Al Nakheel yesterday.

Basheer Mechery, a close associate of T.V. Kochubahava, and a short story writer based in Ras Al Khaimah, presented the story to the audience who gathered to mourn on his fourth death anniversary.

T. V. Sagar, Salim Choolor, Karthikeyan, Artiste Omanakuttan and many other literary oriented readers and Malayalam writers attended the mourning ceremony.

T. V. Kochubava was born in Kattor, a village in Trichur, the cultural capital of Kerala State. Among his famous books are Onnangane Onningene(One is like that and another is like this) Veedippol Nishabdmanu (The home is silent now), Soochikuzhil Oru Yacove (Jacob in needle hole), Kilighalkum Pookalkum, Prarthanagalode Nilkunnu (Standing on Prayers) and Perunkaliyattom (The Dances of Kali) .

His book Soochikughyil Oru Yacove won the Angkanam award in1989 for the best story of the year and the first State Bank of Travancore Award for his selected short stories in the same year. In 1995, his work Vrudhasadanam (The house for the old) won the Cherukad Award followed by the Kerala Sathitiya Academy award for the same novel in 1996.

He also walked away with the Thoppil Ravi award for Upagenmam in 1997 and the "Kelly" award for the best short story for Jalamalika the same year.
