State-owned Indian Airlines and the government of Sharjah have tied up to offer the special packages from Monday to March next year, ranging from Rs14,770 to Rs23,495 for two nights at Sharjah, the cultural capital of the UAE.
"India is one of the biggest tourism markets for us," said Mohammed Al Noman, the director of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority who is here to promote the packages through road shows in Indian cities that link to Sharjah.
Mr Noman said Sharjah was a "safe, family oriented destination" where all members of a family could pursue different activities.
From New Delhi, tourists could avail of a package at Rs16,340 to Rs21,305 per person for two nights and three days, for the period between September 15 and March 31.
The normal Indian Airlines fare from Delhi to Sharjah and back is Rs16,265.
The package would include return airfare in economy class, two nights hotel accommodation, breakfast, airport transfers and a 96-hour visa, said an Indian Airlines official.
From Ahmedabad, the package would cost Rs15,800 to Rs20,765. Tourists from Chennai would have to pay Rs17,205 to Rs22,150, from Cochin Rs17,100 to Rs22,055, from Hyderabad Rs14,770 to Rs19,734 and from Bangalore Rs18,700 to Rs23,495.
Sharjah is the largest destination for Indian Airlines outside the country with 26 flights a week to 13 Indian cities.
An airline official said packages for three nights/four days and four nights/five days were also available on single, double and triple occupancy at extra visa charges.
