Moved by the tragic death of Dubai resident Karl Edwards two years ago, children and parents across theemirate raised thousands of dirhams towards the construction project, which has been managed by the Christina Noble Children's Foundation.

The opening of the Karl Edwards Memorial Classroom is a boost for the residents of the isolated An Hoa Hamlet, My An Village, in Ben Tre Province. "The kindergarten means so much to the entire community," said Donal Kilalea of Pro moseven Network, the Dubai representative of the Foundation. "If it was not for the kind hearted generosity of the children and parents of Dubai, this classroom would not have been built in Ben Tre, an area which has little support and educational facilities."

Since 1991, the Foundation has focused on supporting underprivileged children including orphans, the homeless and the disabled in Vietnam and Mongolia. The organisation, which has received strong support in the Dubai community in the recent years, is also dedicated to serving children in need of emergency and long-term medical care.

Besides, it also focuses on nutritional rehabilitation, educational opportunities, vocational training, job placement and the protection of children at risk of economic and psychological exploitation. In Saigon, the Foundation's Mama Tina Safe House provides shelter for at-risk girls and young women. Kilalea said the Foundation will continue to oversee the running of the Karl Edwards Memorial Kindergarten.
