The ‘Iftar for Cabs’ initiative by Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Middle East, brought together more than 30 of their properties together for a worthy cause as representatives from participating hotels distributed Iftar packs to cab drivers.
Catering teams at each property prepared up to 200 Iftar packs for drivers, which were distributed as they drove through the main entrance of each hotel.
“Taxi drivers are always on the go and many of them fast during Ramadan. The idea behind this initiative was to give a little something back to them, who cannot break their fast on time during Ramadan,” Jemcy Nanjappa, deputy director of sales and marketing at Al Sondos Suites said.
Working under strenuous conditions, taxi drivers often end up breaking their fast on the roads or nearby mosques.
Fazal Janan, a taxi driver who drove all the way from Dubai Marina to participate in the ‘Iftar for Cabs’ at Al Sondos Suites in Deira, was all excited. “My colleague told me about the free Iftar meals.
This is the first time I am getting to eat five-star food and it is a wonderful gesture by the hotel. It feels good when someone appreciates our work and takes time to thank us,” he said.
Picking up his Iftar meal from the concierge, Habib Rahman, a taxi driver working with Dubai Transport, said most of the time he ended up breaking fast in a mosque or a cafeteria.
