Fujairah Education Zone will be investigating several private schools which sell biryani as a breakfast option after a student's mother complained about the situation.
The authority revealed that canteens are allowed to sell rice dishes that comply with all health standards specified by the Ministry of Education, as per an Emarat Al Youm report.
A concerned mother, Asma Mohamed, had been surprised to find a biryani parcel amongst her son's things after school.
He informed her that he had bought it for breakfast at school but hadn't been able to finish it.
The woman was alarmed because her son suffers from chronic digestive issues. Having heavy meals early in the day could potentially aggravate his condition.
The head of the education supervision department in Fujairah, Mish'al Al Khadim, added that an investigation into the matter will be conducted to ensure that all school meals, be they rice or burgers, are healthy.
Students need to have fully balanced meals to perform at optimum levels throughout the school day, he added.
Biryani is a popular dish sold at many private schools for Dh10.
