Dh250m road in Fujairah to be ready by next August

A Dh250million arterial road in the emirate of Fujairah will be opened to traffic by August next year, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MoID) said on Monday.
"The four-kilometre long Hamad Bin Abdullah Road will end the traffic woes of residents and the work on the road is 26 per cent complete now," said Eng Ahmad Al Hammadi, director of the roads department at the ministry.
According to a study, the existing four-lane road sees up to 1,500 vehicles during peak hours and around 18,000 vehicles every day in each direction.
"The arterial roads in the entire emirate will be widened and upgraded to boost the traffic flow," added Al Hammadi.
Side parking lots are being built on the six-lane road - three in each direction - besides service roads, pedestrian crossings and a rain drainage network.
The main pathway of the road shall be diverted into a free one with no stop, Al Hammadi added.
"Two tunnels with three lanes in each direction are being built to ensure this nonstop flow, with a speed limit of 100kmph."
Al Hammadi said they have also built four traffic diversions on the road to ease movement.
Three roundabouts are also to be replaced with traffic signals to boost road safety on the road, he said.
