79-year-old Indian goes home after staying in UAE illegally for 14 years

Dubai - She and her son with mental health issues got their overstaying fine waived.

A 79-year-old disabled Indian woman and her son with mental health issues got their Dh1 million fine for overstaying waived off at the Amnesty centre of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs in Fujairah on the second day of the initiative.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brig Dr Ahmed Ali Al Sagiri, acting executive director of GDRFA Fujairah, said the elderly woman, identified as Sara Saeed Ahmed Bazadani and her 45-year-old son Parvez Ahmed, were staying in the country illegally for 14 years. 
The officers under the supervision of Major Ali Khalfan Al Kubi managed to complete their procedures and issue them exit permission to be able to depart to their country as soon as possible. 
Hashim Sayed, official of Indian Club in Fujairah, said that the woman was married to a Pakistani man who travelled to Pakistan on an annual leave in 2003, leaving his wife and son. But he died in Pakistan before he could return to the UAE. This caused them to remain as illegal residents. They were supported by Indian community through Indian Club, which provided them with basic needs.
The club, in coordination with the Indian embassy, worked to complete their amnesty procedures and travel plans to India, where the authorities will house the mother in a home for the elderly and the son in an orphanage.
In another case, the amnesty centre waived the Dh230,000 fine of a Jordanian, who violated the residency law from 2011. He managed to rectify his status, said Brig Dr Ahmed Ali Al Sagiri. 
The centre is completing the procedures for each amnesty-seeker in less than 10 minutes, said the official, adding that violators have options to depart the county, rectify the status or register in the six-month jobseekers system.
