The sixth security forum titled 'Security for Future Foresight 2030' will begin today at the University of Sharjah.
Aimed at exploring future challenges early to develop proactive plans, the forum, organised by the research and decision support centre of the Ministry of interior (MoI) and in coordination with the Sharjah and Dubai Police forces, will be attended by security experts from the UAE and other parts of the world. The achievements and publications of the MoI and police departments' R&D wings will also be displayed in an exhibition.
Addressing a Press conference on Saturday at Sharjah police academy, Dr Col Khalid Al Hamadi, director of the study and research centre at MoI, said that success of the future foresight programme will determine the scenarios for its development and continuous improvement, at the regional and international levels.
The forum will focus on the 'Security Strategy for the Future' objective, to look ahead to opportunities and challenges, develop long-term plans, as well as enhance security systems based on MoI's planning. The three key themes of the forum are: mechanism of security agencies, capability building and future destination.
Dr Omar Rashid Al Shehhi, director of the MoI's Center for Studies and Surveys in the Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development, said: "The forum will focus on three main topics including the security agencies' mechanism of action, to enhance the concerned parties' thinking on the social, economic, political, environmental, technical and security aspects in a futuristic manner."
The second topic will focus on capacity building by specifying the requirements for developing a strong regulatory and physical infrastructure for security services.
The third will focus on the future direction and enablling security agencies to transform their institutions into future models. It will also look at developing strategic partnerships with security agencies, inside and outside the country.
Dr Col Hamdan Al Dhanhani, deputy director-general of the Centre for the Future Foresight, said that what distinguishes this forum will be its look into Artificial Intelligence (AI), from a future operations aspect.
