Students end up applying late and miss the deadline leading to delays and uncertainty over their choice of university, commented Paul Kanarek, senior vice-president of The Princeton Review during his visit to the UAE.
“Most students are not aware of the procedures and they are not as knowledgeable. Students start the process very late and the lack of planning makes the student look less compelling among other applicants,” said Kanarek.
His comments came on the sidelines of an information session for students at the Emirates National School in Abu Dhabi.
“Teaching students how the American education system is different from the Emirati system takes a little time. It’s important for a student to narrow their choice of university and start planning a year in advance,” said Kanarek.
An expert in university admissions and standardised test preparation, Kanarek visited schools and universities to address students on admission procedures. Offering crucial guidance to students on how to identify the right college for them, and how to gain entrance to top undergraduate, master’s, and MBA programmes, he said: “Students now have more choices than ever before. There are over 3,000 colleges in the USA, yet most students apply to the same 30 name-brand schools.
“It’s no longer about the prestige only of an Ivy League school, or the convenience of lower cost of a state school. It’s about finding the right college for each individual student.”
Kamal Kalwani, CEO of Score Plus Education, said: “By picking a suitable campus, students can speed up the process dramatically and ensure they make the right choice. At the Princeton Review UAE, we strive to help all students find their best fit school.”
