Over 12,600 litres of water were pumped 'virtually' by the Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) on Tuesday during the 'Well of Hope' competition launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Scores of women gathered to demonstrate women power in supporting the humanitarian campaign at the Dubai Ladies Club (DLC) from 9am until 2pm.
Higher management and staff from the DWE, including its subsidiaries DLC and The Cultural Office of Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, participated in pumping water through the virtual interactive pumping device.
Female students from the Higher Colleges of Technology - Dubai Women's College, members from the DLC, and women and girls from the public joined the humanitarian competition. The DWE team, led by Mona Al Marri, chairperson of DWE, enthusiastically took part in the contest to pump large volume of water through this mobile system.
Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, president of DWE and the DLC, and wife of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, said this initiative reflects Sheikh Mohammed's humanitarian vision and commitment to providing aid for those in need. She highlighted that this commitment stems from his awareness of the scarcity of fresh water in remote areas around the world, and the negative impacts it has on the health and lives of millions, hindering the development of their societies and communities.
Al Marri said: "The participation of DWE, DLC, and The Cultural Office in the 'Well of Hope' competition is in line with the establishment's corporate social responsibility strategy and its commitment to actively join humanitarian efforts in various fields both within the UAE and abroad."
