There's a new sports car in the Dubai Police's patrol fleet: The iconic GranTurismo of luxury Italian automaker Maserati.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, on Tuesday received the car - equipped with a 4.7-liter, 460-hp V8 engine - from Al Tayer Motors, the official dealer of Maserati in the UAE.

True to its 'red-blooded racing pedigree', the GranTurismo's engine provides sharp throttle response, a free-revving character and a distinct - almost soul-stirring - Maserati sound.
Maj-Gen Al Marri said using sports cars as patrol vehicles is part of the Dubai Police's strategy of bolstering security presence in tourist destinations, such as the Burj Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and Jumeirah Beach Residence, while at the same time upgrading the police's systems.
With the addition of GranTurismo, the Dubai Police now have a total of 15 sports cars in its fleet, said Lt-Col Dr Mubarak Saeed Benawas Al Kutbi, director of the tourist police department.
Lt-Col Al Kutbi said the new sports coupe would be stationed in different tourist spots and landmark areas across the emirate, going around to serve the public and providing them with necessary police information and advice.
Maj-Gen Al Marri received the vehicle at the Dubai Police headquarters, in the presence of Major-General Dr Al Salal Saeed bin Huwaidi Al Falasi, assistant commandant for administration affairs; Jad Elias, vice-president for Maserati sales at Al Tayer Motors; Domenico La Marte, general manager of Maserati Middle East and Africa; and Lt-Col Al Kutbi.
