As the global struggle to deal with Islamophobia continues, the UAE is reintroducing the concept of tolerance from the Islamic perspective.
In a three-day tolerance convention to be held next week, Dubai's Al Manar Islamic Centre will be sharing with the world how Islam views tolerance and how its different aspects can be applied in life.
Over 10,000 people are expected to visit the Al Manar International Tolerance Convention, which will be held at the Sheikh Rashid Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre.
"As an Islamic centre it is our responsibility to share our Islamic perspective of the concept of tolerance itself. Secondly, we would like to be the key contributor in the initiatives, themes, campaigns run by the UAE. We aim to promote the essence of tolerance among the young people in order to prevent them from any kind of extremism, fanaticism ¬- which is not from Islam. We also aim to enrich the masses with the true values, moderation, love, respect, compassion in the sight of Islam," said India's Ahmed Hamed, one of the renowned speakers who will be leading discussions at the convention.
Among the speakers lined up are Mufti Menk from Zimbabwe; Assim Al Hakim from Saudi Arabia; Said Rageah from Canada; and Abu Abdissalam and Abdul Raheem Green from the UK.
The convention is being organised under the patronage of Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
At the press event held on Monday (March 25) to announce the details for the upcoming tolerance summit, Hamed said: "Dubai is home to more than 200 nationalities of various cultures, backgrounds and diversities. It is apt to host an event of such nature to share the message of tolerance from UAE to the globe."
The event was also attended by Shamsuddin Bin Mohiuddin, chairman of Al Manar Islamic Centre; Mohammed Sohail Al Muhairi from Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities; and other board members of the Islamic centre.
Entry is free for all. There will be on-site registrations but the organisers are encouraging people to register online at www.almanarconvention.com.
