The ministry of infrastructure development has closed down three fast lanes of the Emirates Road between Bridge-7 and Al Badea Intersection for necessary road works.

The traffic flow for those heading to Dubai has been moved from the fast left lanes to the right slow ones, according to Eng Ahmed Al Hammadi, the manager of roads department at the ministry.

"The partial closure of the arterial road shall take effect from today and until May 22," he said, urging drivers to be extra cautious and attentive on the road.

"All motorists are kindly requested to remain focused, observe traffic rules and regulations, stick to speed limit, and strictly follow the road signs for road users' safety and theirs."

The move is in line with the ministry's efforts to cope with the latest international practices in road projects, he added. "These will end in a quantum leap in the process of development nationwide."

Some 80 per cent of the major scheme, worth Dh200 million, have been completed, while the project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year 2018, he disclosed.

"The new ridge will further attract the traffic flow from the northern and eastern emirates heading to the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi."

"The project will significantly boost the capacity of the road from 9,900 to 17,700 vehicles per hour in all directions; 7,800 more vehicles."

The bridge will connect the Emirate road and Sharjah-Maleha road. "It shall be a critical traffic bridge being one of the major five crossways between the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah."
