dubai - On Friday morning, thousands of UAE residents celebrated diversity and social inclusiveness with the annual Emirates NBD Unity Run.
Holding miniature UAE flags, several thousands participated for a fun 3km walk and some ran 10km to promote the cause of inclusiveness in all areas of society.
People of determination and their 'buddies' joined the carnival atmosphere as everyone celebrated unity in diversity in the UAE. This year, the Unity Run took place in Dubai Silicon Oasis, under the patronage of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination, and organised under the umbrella of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Community Sports Initiative.
Hosted by popular radio jockey and emcee Kris Fade, participants began the morning with warm up and group exercises.
Lealyn P Palada, a participant, said: "It is a great event to bring young kids.
They learn about the importance of inclusivity, and learn to interact with people of all backgrounds, including those with disabilities."
The run supports Al Noor Training Centre for People of Determination, Senses Residential and Day Care Centre and Emirates Red Crescent. The event supports the 'My Community' initiative launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, that aims to transform Dubai to a disability-friendly city by 2020.
