The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has closed two fitness centres due to the low number of customers coming for medical tests for visa renewals.

The fitness centres at Al Bad'aa and Al Mankhool have been closed and customers have been directed to go other centres instead.

"The number of customers we were receiving was consistently low in these two centres and the only service these two centres provided was renewal of visas. Therefore, to better utilize manpower and resources, we moved our staff to the Knowledge Village medical fitness centre which is a full-fledged centre and has a higher footfall," said a spokesperson from DHA.

"Customers have options of other centres, which are in the same catchment areas."

Those requiring medical fitness tests can proceed to Al Karama Medical Fitness Express Services Centre, Knowledge Village Medical Fitness Centre, Jumeirah Lake Towers Medical Screening Centre and Al Quoz Mall Medical Fitness Centre.

Medical fitness test is a mandatory requirement for all expats in the UAE. Medical fitness screening is a prerequisite for a residency, employment or education visa.

The DHA has 19 medical fitness centres across the emirate. The centre at Muhaisnah is open round the clock.

There are several medical fitness options available such as regular, VIP, 24 hour and 48 hour medical fitness service.

The DHA also offers the Tawajud service, which is a fast-track service for corporate employees. DHA employees visit the office or home of the individual who has requested for this service and conduct the medical fitness tests required on the spot. For every request, a maximum of 70 employees are tested. This saves the time of the business community as their employees can get the test done in their offices itself.

This service is also beneficial for homemakers who do not wish to go to a medical fitness centre to renew their visa. A request for this service can be made using the DHA's website www.dha.gov.ae
