The car, for the first time, was displayed at the Dubai International Goverment Achivements Exhibition.

Dubai Civil Defence officers will now be racing to the rescue of people in record time - in a brand new, specifically-modified Corvette that officials are claiming is the world's fastest fire-fighting vehicle.

The car, for the first time, was displayed at the Dubai International Goverment Achivements Exhibition.

Brigadier Ahmed Obaid Al Sayeq said the car was modified into a fire-fighting vehicle by specialists at a Dubai workshop, and that the car is equipped with fire extinguishers, hydraulic and first-aid equipment. The speed of the car - the civilian variant of which can top 300 kilometres an hour - allows it to reach accident sites in

much shorter times than traditional heavy fire fighting trucks, and are particularly useful when deployed on highways where it can best use its powerful engine.

He added that the car has been entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's fastest fire-fighting vehicle.

"We had to find a solution to the obstacles that we face when dealing with fires," he said.

The Corvette is among the many super cars in the fleets of Dubai's Police and Civil Defence forces, which include a Lamborghini Aventador, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes SLS, Ferrari FF, BMW 5 series, Chevrolet Camaro, Four Audi A6 executive sedans, and a limited edition Aston Martin One-77.

Brigadier Al Sayeq added that Dubai Civil Defense has introduced a 24/7 system that links all buildings in Dubai to the force's Operations Room to enable them to monitor the alarm systems of every building in the emirate. Dubai Civil Defence is also producing 49 e-services for the public.

He attributed the reduction in fire accidents in Dubai to a careful examination of fire causes, and increased fire-prevention awareness among members of the community as a result of Civil Defense drills and education campaigns.

The Civil Defence booth at the Dubai International Goverment Achivements Exhibition included a special corner dedicated to the heroic efforts of personnel who participated in the response to the Address Hotel fire on New Year's Eve.
