Nigerian-national Gbemi Giwa works very hard to keep her fitness routine dynamic and interesting.
She moved to the UAE when she was 16, and from Afro fit - a popular African dance exercise routine - to Crossfit, cycling, and running, there is nothing Gbemi does not do.
This year, Gbemi accepted to complete the 30-day challenge and is a Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) ambassador. She has been motivating residents to 'get up, and get moving'.
A former student of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), Gbemi is also a well-known Instagram fitness influencer who promotes a healthy lifestyle.
The 25-year-old said: "I've always been physically active and mobile. In school, I would participate in basketball tournaments, and I've been active in various track and field activities," she said.
'Don't overwork my body'
The blogger and fitness enthusiast is a dance teacher and she coaches women to perform 'Afro fit'. "I've been teaching on and off for about two years," she told Khaleej Times. She organises women-only classes, where a variety of dance moves are taught to ladies. "The classes are a whole lot about having a good time and learning to enjoy exercising, and for women, it is about learning to love our bodies as well," she added.
Gbemi found that speaking about her working out experiences through Instagram kept her motivated.
"I spoke about nutrition, imparted various fitness tips. It kept the audience engaged," she added.
For this year's fitness challenge, Gbemi's personal exercise routine includes dance lessons three times a week, cross fit thrice a week, and occasional yoga sessions. "I liked to keep it mixed and dynamic, and it keeps exercising interesting. In this way, I don't overwork my body, and I am always trying something new and different."
Gbemi regularly does CrossFit and powerlifting workouts.
