His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday launched a brand new project that aims to turn Jumeirah into a integrated cultural destination and a vibrant hub for local, Arab and international artists.
Sheikh Mohammed also approved the logo of the initiative titled 'Jumeriah Project' that features a number of initiatives and events, which celebrate the spirit of Jumeirah.
The project will have participation of 30 Emirati, Arab and international artists to implement 30 artistic projects in 30 locations along the Jumeirah Road.
During the launching ceremony held at the Dubai Media Office, Sheikh Mohammed said that the "UAE has enthralled the world with its development, which placed the happiness of individuals and the society on top of its priorities."
He added: "Our objective is to turn Dubai into a open-air museum where the whole world could see its race against time in terms of development. We want all our initiatives and projects to be driven by innovation. We will provide all the support and resources necessary for turning promising creative ideas into reality."
Appreciating the objectives of the project, Sheikh Mohammed said: "The advanced work style, inspiring vision, and clear objectives are the means to skip what is conventional to be innovative, and turn ideas into achievements."
The project that would change Jumeirah, home to a number of iconic tourist landmarks like the Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah, and the Wild Wadi Water Park, will link the city's rich past and with the ever-changing present. Memories of old Jumeirah will be depicted on the walls of a number of houses that overlook the Jumeirah Street as part of the project.
The initiative under Brand Dubai will be implemented in collaboration with Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and the Dubai Sports Council.
Matar Al Tayer, director-general, chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said: "We are proud of our role in the project because of its impact in promoting the cultural landscape of Jumeirah Street with its important historical and civilisational value."
Also present at the launch ceremony were Mona Ghanem Al Merri, director-general of the Dubai Media Office, and Dawood Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al Hajiri , director-general of the Dubai Municipality.
