Shopaholics should set their alarms to be first in line to bag a bargain at this Dubai Summer Surprises, which is back for its 21st edition from June 22 to August 4 with mammoth opening and closing sales, plus a steady stream of flash sales and entertainment across the city along with chances to win exciting prizes.
This time DSS is giving customers 25 to 75 per cent off on a wide range of merchandise throughout the six-week festival period.
The six-week sale will include a mega 12-hour sale on opening day, offering up to 90 per cent off at participating Majid Al Futtaim malls from midday, plus Deal of the Day (DOTD), which will offer people an incredible shopping deal every day throughout DSS, starting on June 23. Under DOTD, each deal will be revealed just 24 hours ahead and will be valid from 10am to 12pm (or until stocks last)
With just over two weeks left for the opening, organiser Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the department of tourism and commerce marketing (Dubai Tourism), revealed highlights of this year's sales.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of DFRE, said: "We are well-aligned to meet 20 million visitors a year. Depending on different seasons we have different campaigns targeting different markets. Summer is mainly regional so we focus mostly on nearby countries, mainly GCC. The growing number of visitors to Modhesh world, a part of DSS, has led us to increase its capacity 20-30 per cent."
A bigger line up of events is planned at this year's Modhesh World that will offer families and young ones two additional halls of fun and games.
City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dragon Mart 2, Dubai Festival City, Ibn Battuta Mall, Mall of the Emirates and The Outlet Village will all be offering spend and win opportunities to make shopping this summer even more exciting.
The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group will be offering discounts on the manufacturing price of gold, special offers and free gifts on purchase throughout the summer, while participating malls of Dubai Shopping Malls Group will be offering chances to win big money with raffle prize draws.
Emaar Entertainment Group will be launching 'Dubai Big Ticket' giving people the opportunity to purchase access to some of Dubai's top attractions for 40 per cent less.
City Walk will be offering a buy-one-get-one free offer on Mattel Play Town and Green Planet, while restaurants across the area will be giving diners big discounts on their bill.
Those looking for a spot of relaxation can enjoy limited-edition sun bed deals at La Mer's Sea Breeze kiosk, as well as 20 per cent off at selected restaurants at the beachside destination.
Majid Al Futtaim will be offering a special 'Majid Al Futtaim DSS Package' which offers a three nights stay at Sheraton Mall of the Emirates, including breakfast, Ski Dubai tickets and preferred rates for additional Ski Dubai or Magic Planet tickets.
While Dubai Dolphinarium will be offering free access for one child with every adult ticket purchased, La Perle, Dubai's mesmerising show, will be offering a huge 50 per cent off tickets during DSS.
"This time DSS encompasses not just shopping outlets but also offers discounted packages for theme parks, day pass, character shows, music concerts etc," said Suhaila Saqer Obaid Ghubash, director of events and festivals at DFRE.
