Lingering in the back of my mind had always been the desire to start some form of art class. Getting out and and about in Dubai had me stumbling upon a quirky little venture in Al Quoz just opposite Al Serkal Avenue. Pottery on the wheel at Yadawei Ceramic Studio and Gallery, brings you a space to express yourself using clay from Stoke on Trent... or even just a space to calm down after a busy day.
For newbies like myself, an introductory class was a good place to start and I was suitably happy with the permission to get messy!
Keep your bohemian skirts, Instagram make up and Snapchat accessories at home. This is the moment where you can let your expectations go, and on a safety level, you'll stop a trip to A and E. Basically I was advised to keep the decoration for the clay only whilst participating.
With bubbles in my clay and dressing up my apron before my pot, I definitely stood out as a beginner! Yet the mix ability within the class, alongside the patience, attention and informality from the teacher Ceren Senbark, just made it amusing and fun. Surprisingly I did end up with a cute mini amateur masterpiece ... aka a small shapely vase you find in holiday souvenir shops saying "Greetings from Athens" or somewhat similar.

The vase - A great versatile little number to store my unused pens at the weekend, or to dip a few fresh flowers inside, brightening up my desk during the weekdays.
Next class to look out for:
"Family morning at the studio"
A discovery event for all ages
11am - 12.30pm
Location: Yadawei, 8th A Street, Al Quoz 1, Dubai.
