A Dubai-based Indian real estate tycoon, who has been appointed as the honorary consul of the Slovak Republic, will be heading the European country's new consulate in the south Indian city of Bengaluru.
Dr Roy CJ, founder and chairman of Confident Group, said he would assume his new role on the opening day of the Slovak consulate on September 27.
"This is a prestigious appointment since it is done by the Slovak government and ratified by the President of India. As the first NRI from the UAE to receive such a recognition from a European Union member state, I consider my positing as a great recognition and honour," said Roy.
Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajcak, announcing the appointment of Roy as honorary consular officer, had requested the Indian government to enable him all diplomatic privileges related to his mission to carry out his responsibilities.
Roy said the Bengaluru consulate of Slovak Republic would have jurisdiction of Karnataka and Kerala states. Briefing the media on his new responsibilities, Roy said he would be looking after the affairs of Slovak citizens in Karnataka and Kerala.
