Emirates Post Group has directed individuals and companies not to deal with persons and unauthorised companies to perform courier activities, and instructed companies to abide by laws and regulations to avoid penalties.

The group said in a statement that it had recently identified companies which violated the laws of courier services.

The government-owned postal group pointed out that Article 27 of the Federal Law No. 3/2013 states that any person committing any of the following acts must be punished by imprisonment for a period of not less than one year and not more than two years, and a fine of not less than Dh10,000 and not more than Dh100,000 or either penalty.

Emirates Post Group has the power to issue licences to private companies to practice courier services whether internal and international, and to organize and supervise courier, and suspend and revoke such licences in accordance with the terms and conditions, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

Sultan Al Midfa, acting executive director of Courier Licensing Department, said: "Practicing courier activities without obtaining prior licence from group and economic departments in the state is illegal and subject to legal accountability and fines. Anyone wishing to carry out courier activities must apply to licensing department of the company to obtain the required license after paying prescribed fees. If you wish to inquire about the validity of any courier company, please do not hesitate to contact Emirates Post Group via available channels."
