Over the last few years, Municipality inspectors have been cracking down on the illegal sale of fireworks, particularly around Diwali and Eid.
In Dubai, anyone caught selling fireworks can be jailed for up to three months, or handed down fines of up to Dh5,000.
The Dubai Police, however, have noted that the practice has largely been curbed as a result of awareness initiatives held among the community, such as the Fireworks Danger Awareness Campaign.
The Dubai Police have noted that fireworks can threaten the safety of both people and property, and cause material damage as well as environmental pollution. They are particularly dangerous to young UAE residents who are unaware of the potential dangers.
Police have noted that fireworks can also cause fires that threaten the safety of people and property or cause material damage and environmental pollution. Fireworks pose great dangers to youngsters who are ignorant of the consequences and risks of dealing with them.
However, many UAE residents - particularly young ones - have told Khaleej Times that fireworks are still available online.
"There are people who sell fire crackers through Whatsapp, Facebook and other social media platforms," one teenager in Ajman told Khaleej Times in 2015. "Using our parents' credit cards, we bought crackers during Eid Al Fitr and traders delivered them secretly to our house."
