A PRO, who allegedly illegally confined three Asians and tried to extort cash from them after misusing an official ID belonging to a residency captain, faced charges at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.
According to public prosecution records, the 24-year-old Iranian man held two men and a woman against their will after posing as a CID officer and falsely claiming to them that he could scratch off their residency fines. He allegedly forced them inside his car after tying up their hands with plastic cuffs. He also tried to defraud the victims of Dh30,000.
The court heard that he blackmailed one of the victims, who owned a company, by saying that he would put one of the female staff in prison unless he paid him Dh20,000.
He faced charges of misusing a public officer's official card, illegal confinement, blackmail and making criminal threats and attempted fraud.
A 22-year-old Egyptian man, on a visit visa, is accused of aiding and abetting him in the crime.
The case dates back to December 18, last year, and was registered at Bur Dubai police station.
The female complainant, a 24-year-old Pakistani, recounted to the prosecution investigator how the PRO entered the warehouse where she worked. "He was shouting while he impersonated as a CID officer. He then said I was a Labor Law violator and took me by force inside his car."
"He was talking with his accomplice, who was sitting in the front seat. He handed him over a copy of my passport. As the owner of the company was paying him the money he wanted, the police arrived and arrested the suspects," the complainant added.
A police corporal said they apprehended the suspects outside the warehouse before they could get away with the money.
The trial has been adjourned to October 28.
