The Dubai Police have launched a new device named 'smart controller', which can detect traffic violations more accurately than conventional radars.
Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said that the smart controller has many additional features including an integrated technical system that helps the traffic police to ensure road safety and tighten electronic control on roads, while focusing on checking the dangerous violations committed by drivers.
He added that the new device has been introduced to keep pace with the smart transformation in various areas of police work and enhance the use of modern innovations to achieve the strategic objectives of the Dubai Police. He pointed out that a technical team of the Dubai Police has been assigned to implement the new radar system, which will boost external roads' control and bring about road security.
He stressed that the use of new radar was aimed to check recklessness of some drivers and deter them from breaching the traffic rules. This would go a long way in protecting the lives of road-users.
Major-General Al Marri said that the Dubai Police are keen to harness modern technology to bring about road safety.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director-general of the traffic department at the Dubai Police, explained that the smart controller device has nine additional features when compared to the existing radars. It has a high quality surveillance camera that can monitor traffic violations like exceeding the maximum speed limit and road obstruction as well as pedestrians crossing from non-designated areas. It can be fixed on road fences and move for a short distance to record the number of the violating vehicle. The device has a feature that directly transmits everything to the command and control centre, in addition to ringing an alarm and using microphones for transmission of warning messages to motorists or pedestrians. The device could be controlled by officers using mobile application.
He added the smart controller can be used at many places to warn pedestrians where they cross the highways from non-designated areas. It can be easily installed and operated. It can also contribute to secure events and vital sites by monitoring the roads, he added.
