For Nahid Elavia, being part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge means taking time out of her busy schedule and doing something worthwhile.
"I wanted to take part in the fitness challenge last year too but unfortunately I was out of the country," said the Indian resident of Dubai.
"I had heard a lot about it the first time and wanted to try things on my own this year," she said.
This year, Nahid had the chance. "I am not a fitness freak or into gymming regularly, but I still wanted to be part of this challenge as it is a great initiative," she said.
"Once you start, it becomes addictive and you feel like you want to continue this for as long as you can," she added.
Nahid and her husband take part in the ongoing activities whenever they get time and chance. "We go to different locations and pick out activities that suit and attract us," she said.
For Nahid, the best part of the challenge is that most activities are outdoors. "This is the best part and the weather is great too so I love doing zumba and yoga," she said.
The couple has also downloaded the Dubai Fitness app to record their fitness activities. "Even if we are not taking part in any of the daily activities and are only walking, even then we log into our app and record our steps," she added.
Nahid also says that they have been trying to take part in the challenge as a couple. "We are both busy and we cannot take part in the fitness activities on a daily basis due to a hectic schedule but whenever we can on the weekends, we do it together," said Nahid who has been in Dubai for three years.
While her husband loves zumba, tennis and walking, Nahid is more focused on yoga and zumba.
"I took part in the opening carnival and did some stretching and yoga exercises," she said.
Later, she took some tennis classes in Al Habtoor. "I used to regularly attend dance and yoga classes but I stopped them due to a busy schedule," said Nahid.
"I am hoping that even once the activities are over, I'll continue to do some daily activity," she said, adding that the beauty of the challenge is that it encourages a lifestyle change.
