The Dubai Municipality (DM) organised a book exhibition at its headquarters on Sunday as part of the 'Month of Reading' during the Year of Zayed.
The book exhibition titled, Reading in the Year of Zayed, was organised by the knowledge management department with the participation of the environment department at the municipality headquarters.
"The event is in line with DM's efforts to instill love of reading and gaining knowledge among employees and customers. Reading is an investment for their minds and culture. It is food for the soul and a key to innovation and human progress," said Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of DM, who inaugurated the book exhibition.
"It addresses various interests and is a motivation to develop the habit of reading as a lifestyle, so that they form an authentic daily exercise. We organise events and programmes focused on reading on specialised knowledge, which is aimed at employees in various work sectors. The book exhibition is aimed at making reading a sustainable public phenomenon in a festive atmosphere," he said.
The book exhibition witnessed the participation of six bookstores and a stall for e-library, the Neil Furat.com, in addition to a stall for the budding writers of DM and a knowledge coffee corner. The environment department participated in the event with the story of the Treasure of Life and the Wheel of Awareness Questions.
Lootah stressed the prominent role of the municipality in promoting the activities of the Month of Reading, through the development of diversified reading related events and activities aimed at the various segments of the society.
Maryam Ahmad bin Fahad, director of knowledge management department, said they have started many activities in 2018 to attract people towards reading, including the Knowledge Cart at Al Khawaneej Walking Track, the Car Free Day, and 33 other reading activities, in addition to publishing the sayings and words of the late Sheikh Zayed.
