Dubai Municipality's 9th Car-free Day initiative will witness participation from three other Emirates in the UAE. Municipalities of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain have decided to join forces with Dubai Municipality to observe car-free day.
Senior officials at DM have revealed that efforts to protect the environment are not confined to the Emirate of Dubai. The benefits of car- free transport is best expanded to other emirates, protecting the environment and reducing the carbon footprint of UAE, said officials.

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality said the environmental event will take place on February 4, with huge participation from various government, semi-government departments and private companies.

A total of 60,000 vehicles participated in car-free day in 2017; the Municipality expects larger numbers in terms of participation this year.

"The door is open to all municipalities of the UAE to participate in this initiative, as it is no more a local event and has become a role model for protecting the environment from carbon pollution that affects everyone," said Lootah.

"Last year we had the participation of 2,444 individuals and nearly 200 organisations for this popular environmental initiative in the country," said Lootah.

"There will also be the participation of various sectors such as education, real estate, retail sector, hotels, banks as well as people of determination as the Municipality has always been keen to integrate this important category in the various initiatives and events," he said.
