What should you do when disasters strike Dubai? For instance, what is the best way to remain safe if thunderstorms or earthquakes hit Dubai? The Dubai Police have released brochures in seven languages addressing these very questions.
The brochures released online list out tips to stay safe during mist and fog, thunderstorms, earthquakes or power outages.
The brochures have been released in Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Urdu.

If earthquakes hit and you are inside a building:
> Lie calmly on the ground and try to take shelter by swarming under a solid table and hold onto it until the tremor stops
> In case there is no furniture around, cover your face and head with your arms and turn to a corner of the building
> Stay away from glass, windows, exterior doors, walls or anything that may fall on you
> Detach the electricity mains and water sources and close the gas sources tightly
> Do not use elevators

When thunderstorms hit:
> Avoid using your phone and electronic devices
> Do not stand next to telephone poles, electricity posts or thick trees
> Avoid standing in high areas
> Do not enter open or exposed areas
> Keep away from metals and steel materials
> Keep away from the beach, wet areas and water pools

In case of power outages
> Do not dial 999 unless the emergency is so major that you require police intervention
> Persons trapped in elevators need to remain calm and hit the emergency button
> Call an electrician if the power outage is restricted to your building
> Shut down the major appliances and disconnect them from power outlets
