His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, posted a series of tweets in Chinese in honour of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the UAE on Thursday.
The first reads, "The United Arab Emirates warmly welcomes Chinese President Xi Jinping, his first visit abroad after his re-election. This visit is precious and historically significant, laying the foundation of a new strategic partnership between our two countries.

"In 2017, trade between the UAE and China reached Dh200 billion, accounting for nearly a quarter of all trades between China and the Arab world. More than a million Chinese tourists visited the UAE last year. We have tens of billions of dollars in joint ventures in petroleum, renewable energy, infrastructure, science and technology industries... and we strive to double these numbers in the near future."
"The UAE is the first Gulf country to establish a strategic partnership with China, and we signed multiple agreements on regional and international fronts. We strive towards the consolidation of cultural, civil and humanitarian partnerships in addition to our strong political and economic ties."
