Consumers can avail up to 55 per cent discount on select goods at 75 outlets across the eastern coastal emirates, said Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, the Consumer Protection Department Director at the Ministry of Economy.
This came during a meeting held by the Ministry of Economy in Fujairah with representatives from shops and outlets in Fujairah as well as other eastern coastal cities, Al Bayan reported.
Al Nuaimi called on all outlets to publish the list of 1,700 essential consumer goods used all over the UAE. These include items such as rice, flour, sugar, oil, chicken and eggs.
The ministry called upon consumers to be on alert and ensures stores are abiding by the initiative.
All outlets in the eastern region were asked to prepare for more than 50% price reductions on basic food commodities during the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan baskets, including the most basic consumer needs during the Holy Month, are also being prepared.
