40-year-old man with AIDS stalks woman in UAE, rapes her

Dubai - He allegedly threatened to slit her throat.

A man denied having stalked a woman to her place before forcing his way inside and raping her, as he stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The 40-year-old Emirati man pleaded not guilty to a rape charge in the court, claiming he was sick. His medical examinations report showed he has AIDS and other transmittable diseases.
According to public prosecution records, he followed the Moroccan woman in the wee hours of May 13 as she was returning to her place from a nightclub. A complaint was filed at Al Qusais police station.
The 24-year-old complainant recounted during investigation how the defendant forcibly got inside her flat as she was opening the door. "He assaulted me and then raped me. He said he would slit my throat if I screamed for help."
The police were alerted about the incident by the victim's Syrian friend, who was on the phone with her and heard her screams as she was being assaulted. "I went to her place and took him away from her. I restrained him until the police arrived," the witness told the prosecutor.
The trial has been postponed to September 23.
