Three sleeping workers burned to death after a fire broke out in a warehouse in Al Quoz early on Sunday. The fire was reported in the warehouse in industrial area number 3 at 4:50am, the civil defence said.
The warehouse belonged to a private company.
Mohammed Hamed, spokesperson of the Dubai Civil Defence, said when firefighters reached the site, they found the fire had spread to two other neighbouring warehouses. The flames spread because of flammable materials stored in the warehouses.
Over 50 firefighters from four civil defence stations battled the blaze for four hours and brought it under control by 9:00am. Representatives of the private company that owned the warehouse told the civil defence at 10.30am that three workers had been transported to the warehouse and they suspected the workers were trapped inside. A civil defence team then found the bodies and transferred them to the forensic laboratory for autopsy.
