Live music, a poetry session, circus on water, a party, a throbbing green community market or a classic opera - we round up the various ways you can pack some fun into your weekend!
Ripe Market
Some call it lazy Saturday, while others make the best of the day. Take a trip to the The Ripe Outdoor Market this Saturday where you will get to taste some of the region's best local foods. There will be entertainment from local artists, movie screenings, fitness activities and more! Meet musicians, artists and designers as you engage with the local community. At Al Barsha Pond Park from 10am-8pm.
Circus on the River
There's always something exciting happening at Riverland Dubai. If you happen to go there today, you'll get to watch acrobats, magic tricks, trampoline, a contortionist and a ropewalker who balances his way across the 1.4m high line across the river while juggling. At Dubai Parks And Resorts.
Watch a movie outdoors
It's the right season again to enjoy movies outdoors in the UAE. West 14th Steakhouse at the Palm will be showing films for free every Thursday throughout October. This week, they'll be showing Shrek Ever After and Now You See Me (6.30pm, 8pm)
Location: West 14th Steakhouse, Oceana Beach Club on the Palm. More information here.
Join (or watch) a 'skateboarding jam'
Vans will be holding its first ever 'skateboarding jam' in Dubai this Friday. Skaters are free to bring their own boards and show off their skills at Business Bay Skate park just behind Bay Avenue. The first 100 participants to register will also get a free t-shirt. How cool is that? Register here
Poetic turn
Poetry, they say, is one of the highest forms of creativity. So here's your chance to bring forth your hidden talents. Take your personal texts, in any form (extracts, thoughts etc), and join Farah Chamma, as she conducts a poetry/writing workshop this Saturday. Budding poets and authors will have the opportunity to share their work with their peers and get an instant feedback here. Book your spot on rsvp@alserkalavenue.ae
Jersey Boys
Have you caught a show at Dubai Opera yet? No? Then this Saturday offers the perfect opportunity to visit the place as the Tony award-winning musical Jersey Boys goes on stage. The musical tells the story of how four regular guys from New Jersey transformed into one of the most successful bands of all time - Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. It features Valli's immortal hits. Game for it?
Dover St. fashion?
We are super excited that one of London's exclusive brand's (from Dover Street actually!) is coming to Dubai. Varana will be launched at an event at Urban Garden, Capital Club, DIFC on Saturday. And if you happen to go there, you will get an opportunity to hobnob with the brand's creative director who will be at hand to explain the finer points about her exquisite collection that showcases Eastern craft techniques. Fashionistas, are you listening?
Ryan Sheridan live
Head to McGettigan's at Souk Madinat Jumeirah on Friday at 8pm and join in their 1st anniversary celebration. It's going to be a fun night because Irish singer Ryan Sheridan is performing live. The gifted singer-guitarist and storyteller is known for his hits like Jigsaw and The Dreamer, and more. Loads of good grub, music and fun to be had at the do! Be there!
Polo Season Opener
Thrill to the sizzle of the Opening Season Soirée, a fun day for members and community residents to come together today. The evening features live barbecue stations as guests will be kept entertained by a DJ, some live acts and endless activities for adults and children alike. On at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club this evening.
Urdu theatre
The Urdu play Mian Biwi Aur Wagah is back on the Dubai stage (by popular demand we heard!). Written and produced by professionals based in the UAE, the show will be staged at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday at The Junction, Alserkal Avenue. Inspired by true events and stories, the play aims to highlight the intimacy of the forgotten tradition of letter-writing.
