Screens to broadcast Burj Khalifa light show at labour accommodations

Dubai - The gigantic screens will be installed at Al Muhaisna area near Emirates Post and in Al Quoz behind Royal Enfield Garage.

As the clock strikes 12 midnight today, thousands of workers will 'virtually' join the New Year's Eve celebrations at the Burj Khalifa.
The Dubai Police have installed huge screens at two labour accommodations in Al Quoz and Al Qusais for the unsung heroes to help them watch the laser light show at Downtown Dubai. The gigantic screens will be installed at Al Muhaisna area near Emirates Post and in Al Quoz behind Royal Enfield Garage.
The humanitarian initiative of the Dubai Police does not end there. The workers will be served meals (1,500) at each labour accommodation and movies will be screened around 10pm to make the day merrier and memorable for them.
Brigadier Abdulla Ali Abdulla Al Ghithi, director of protective security department, said the aim of the initiative is to share the joy of New Year with everyone.
"The labourers may not have any means to commute to the boulevard area on New Year's Eve. By installing the screens, we are enabling them to enjoy the New Year celebrations from the comfort of their workers' accommodation. They need not travel to the downtown area amid heavy traffic," he added.
'Light Up 2018', the laser light show in Downtown Dubai to usher in the New Year, is set to be an official Guinness World Records title attempt that will add to the UAE's pride.
The 'Light Up 2018' celebrations will kick off at 5pm, starting with The Dubai Fountain shows and live DJ, and continue till 1am.
Emaar had been running a teaser to the show for the past four days.
The last-minute preparations and arrangements were done on Saturday by the Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority.
