When Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, announced the Dubai Fitness Challenge in October, the Galadari Brothers Group gladly accepted it.
The parent company of the UAE's first English newspaper Khaleej Times, Galadari Brothers was among the UAE corporates to accept the challenge bright and early - and look where it's landed us.
As at 10.30am on November 18, the final day of the challenge, Galadari Brothers occupies the No. 2 slot in the challenge in corporate Category B (6,000+ employees) among 259 companies registered for the challenge.
The Dubai 30x30 initiative that aims to make Dubai the most active city in the world has seen Galadari Brothers staff collectively score 3.62 million moves so far.

The Dubai Fitness Challenge put the city on its toes and tested the agility of corporates. And the nimble ones are racing ahead.
The mechanics were simple - committing 30 minutes of physical activity for 30 days - from October 20 to November 18. The Dubai Crown Prince challenged several government institutions to take part in the initiative.
Final results will be out only once the challenge is complete. In Category B, du currently occupies the first spot, followed by Galadari Brothers. Al Ghandi is holding on to the third rank while Mashreq Bank is at the fourth slot. On the fifth and sixth spots currently are Gulf Marketing Group and Alshaya.

As a group, Galadari Brothers gave employees incentives for participating in the challenge, facilitated group workouts in Zabeel Park (and other public parks) and even organised workout sessions, including two in Khaleej Times premises.
Employees of group companies including Galadari Ice Cream Company (Baskin Robbins), Galadari Automobiles and Galadari Publishing, among others, took it as a personal challenge and got down to becoming fit.
We intend to continue down the fitness path even after the Dubai Fitness Challenge concludes today. For, fitness is a journey, not a destination.
