Two officers accused of tampering with exit records of over 1,000
They are charged with putting on record the exit of people on tourist visas from the airport, while in fact they were still in the UAE at the time.
Dubai - Two Emirati passport officers stood trial on Sunday in the Court of First Instance on the charge of tampering with the exit records of more than 1,000 people while they were at the Dubai International Airport.
Officer K.A, 31, is accused of abusing his post and the privilege of having access to his workplace database to falsely put on record the exit of 532 individuals on tourist visas from the airport, while in fact they were still in the UAE at the time. Corporal M.S., 30, is accused of using K.A.’s privilege access to tamper with the electronic data pertaining to 39 individuals on tourist visas while on duty at the Arrivals Hall of the airport. M.S. allegedly did the same to the exit details of the other 548 tourists along with K.A.
The crime is believed to have taken place from February 2008 to December 2012. A passport sergeant from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at Terminal 2 told the prosecution that their Preventive Security Office summoned the two officers on trial in the end of 2012. The next hearing is set for March 8.
