The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court of Appeal has commuted a ten-year jail term passed against an Arab woman, convicted of killing her housemaid, to only one year in prison.
As per court records, the RAK police was alerted about the death of a housemaid here. Investigations showed that the victim was beaten to death by the suspect as per the forensic report.
However, the defendant denied the accusations and told the court that they only had a simple verbal fight on the day of the maid's death as she used to stay up late outdoors, and she did not beat her.
"The son of the woman admitted during police interrogation that his mother beat the victim hard until she fell motionless to the ground of the hall," a prosecution witness, a CID officer with the RAK Police told the RAK Criminal Court.
In his testimony, the forensic doctor and DNA expert with the RAK Police told the court that the victim succumbed to fatal injuries she received in her head, stomach and chest.
The RAK Criminal Court, based on the evidence collected and testimonies of the prosecution witnesses ordered the suspect to serve ten years in prison. The defendant moved the higher court which reduced the jail term to only one year.
