The Dubai Police have solved the mystery of a murdered Filipino woman and referred a Pakistani suspect to the Dubai Public Prosecution on murder charges.
On February 19 at approximately 8pm, the Operations Room of the Dubai Police received information about a murder in flat number 206 of a building in Dubai International City's England Cluster.
The police rushed to the scene and a man - an Asian sales executive - told officers that he came home from work to find the door of his flat open. He then spotted the dead body of the victim lying in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed 23 times. He also noted that her belongings were strewn everywhere. The man told the police that he had been living in the same apartment as the victim, 26-year old Lenlie, for over an year.
Police investigation revealed that the victim was working as a nanny, but had been violating the residency laws since July of last year. The police examined the crime scene and discovered that nobody had entered or left the building that day.
Police suspected a Pakistani national named Khorshed, who worked as in the building's cleaning company and was living in a room on the roof, after they noted he had scratches on his neck and face. When confronted, he confessed to the crime.
In his confession, he said that on the day of the crime he was cleaning the corridor and the victim sprayed water on him. When he confronted her, she allegedly called him "idiot", which he understood.
To take revenge, the suspect said he went to a nearby restaurant and took a screw and a knife, and went to her flat at 4pm knowing she would be alone. When she opened the door, he told her he had come to check the alarm system. Once inside, he started stabbing her with the knife. The knife broke as she resisted him and then he took the screw and continued stabbing her until she fell to the ground. He then went to the kitchen and took another knife with which he repeatedly stabbed her.
He then took all the money he could find in the flat and used a jacket he found to hide his blood-stained clothes. He then went back to his room and disposed of the jacket in a garbage, and attempted to hide his shoes by throwing them on the roof of the building. The screw he used was later recovered.
