The inspection section of the Department of Economic Development in Umm Al Quwain has seized 90 vehicles for distributing products without licence. The vehicles were stopped during surprise inspections in markets, commercial institutions, groceries, restaurants, water plants and warehouses across the emirate.
Mansur Sultan Al Kharji, Director-General of the department, said the vehicles were distributing foodstuff, electric equipment, cosmetics and other products without having proper licences."All the vehicle drivers were fined for flouting rules and regulations as such illegal practices pose grave risk to public health, particularly as some of these produces are manipulated, expired, risky or of unknown origin."Some of the nabbed vehicles obtained trade licences from other emirates, but turned blind eye to rules in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, he added. "Some of the food items seized were unfit for human consumption as well."
Al Kharji said institutions should get licences so that their vehicles and agents can distribute products in the emirate or they would face hefty fines."Intensive inspection campaigns are planned to curb such violations and ensure that all the product-distributing vehicles are complying with the set rules," he said, urging the public to immediately report any such violations to the staff inspectors.
"The department is easily accessible for complaints, suggestions, remarks, feedback and enquiries either in persona, by mail at uaqecon@uaqecon.ae, by phone at 050-1583999, 06-7652200 or by fax at 06-7653322."The department has, meanwhile, issued warning letters to a number of institutions for not issuing bills in Arabic as instructed by the Ministry of Economy.
