The Commemoration Day, previously known as Martyrs Day, on November 29 is not a holiday, authorities have clarified. The Ministry of Education and Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) have confirmed that schools will remain open on Thursday.
Although the Commemoration Day is usually marked on November 30, the UAE Cabinet had issued a decision that the day would be marked one day earlier.
The day will see the UAE flag raised at half mast at 8am, and a minute of silence observed at 11.30am across ministries and private and public establishments. The flag will then be raised, followed by the national anthem.
The day will not be a public holiday, as the country's residents and citizens will come together to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs.
4-day weekend
December 2 and 3 have been declared as official holidays to celebrate the UAE's 47th National Day. This means that residents would get to enjoy four days off when the official holidays are combined with the weekend.
