The Ajman Police have recorded a 95 per cent increase in the number of confiscated vehicles in the emirate of Ajman. Latest figures showed that in the last four months, 219 vehicles were impounded, almost double the 111 cars seized during the same period last year.
Most of the confiscated vehicles were involved in crimes and traffic violations, police said.
Major-General Sheikh Sultan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said the increase in impoundment was brought about by the intensified inspection campaigns of the police.
"These vehicles were driven by motorists who committed serious traffic violations, such as jumping the red light, tinting car windows beyond permissible limit, overtaking from the wrong side, non-renewal of vehicle licence, driving under the influence of alcohol, and so on," Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi said.
Many of the violations were caught by radars on roads or through the patrols and inspections, he added. Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi said the police also suspended 1,993 driving licences in the last four months, noting a decline from the 2,767 suspensions in 2018.
He added that the police would continue to ramp up its awareness drive and implement many other initiatives to ensure road safety in the emirate.
