Shaping UAE youth to build a better tomorrow

Abu Dhabi - The activities run under two initiatives of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec): Champions of Tomorrow, a sports programme now running for two years, and the Creative Programme, which includes both art and scientific activities.

Over 100 teachers from public schools across the emirate gathered in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday to celebrate the end of the extra-curricular activities for the 2015-2016 season.
The activities run under two initiatives of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec): Champions of Tomorrow, a sports programme now running for two years, and the Creative Programme, which includes both art and scientific activities.
"The aim of these initiatives is to unleash youth's capabilities and skills and support them through knowledge to help qualify as future leaders of the country," said Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations at Adec.
According to him, the second edition of Champions of Tomorrow attracted the participation of 84,788 students from public schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.
The competitions began in October last year and included athletics, swimming, fencing, taekwondo, judo, jiu-jitsu, archery, football, basketball, handball and volleyball.
As many as 41,828 boys and 42,960 girls competed in three age groups - elementary, secondary and high school.
The last day of the final round was held on March 7 for boys, when a total of 894 students qualified for the finals after surviving previous elimination rounds, and on March 8 for the 882 girls, who made it into the finals.
The Creative Programme, promoting arts and science, was also established to promote leadership among students by encouraging their creative thinking.
"The success of Champions of Tomorrow and Creative Programme is a great impetus for Adec to continue organising initiatives and quality activities," stressed Al Dhaheri.
"Enabling students to discover their skills and talents and showcasing them, helps contribute to our national efforts to build an educated society," he added.
